bret martin, PsyD

post-doctoral fellow in clinical psychology

supervised by kelleigh head, psyd

I developed my passion for psychology and mental health treatment during my college education in St. Petersburg, Florida. My classes in psychology and human development afforded me the opportunity to complete an undergraduate internship working with young children; that experience set the stage for the next ten years of my education. As I completed graduate school, I spent six years in California, and earned my doctorate after I finished my final internship in northern Wisconsin. My studies have taken me all over the United States. However, as a Dallas native, I am extremely excited to be back home, and serving the wonderful people of Texas.

Since 2013, I have refined my therapeutic identity and style through my work with a wide variety of patients. I have been privileged to work with couples and families, children on the autism spectrum, male inmates incarcerated in a maximum-security prison, inpatients and outpatients receiving substance abuse and addiction treatment in a hospital setting, and juveniles incarcerated in a type-one correctional facility. Many of those clinical experiences afforded me the opportunity to provide treatment for acute and complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders.

My approach to therapy is based on getting to know people as individuals, and then tailoring treatment to meet their unique needs. I do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to treatment. I am also an avid believe in respecting the vulnerability and privacy that are key to developing a productive therapeutic alliance. I collaborate with patients to help them organize their goals for treatment, and to then achieve those goals in the manner that is right for them. It is an honor to work with people in a therapeutic capacity, and I look forward to getting to know you.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in determining if therapy is a process that you would like to pursue.
